Grace Rose lived from 1887 to 1981. She was born in Michigan and lived there most of her life. This is a transcription of her diary written in 1908, the year she turned 21. She lived in Corunna, Michigan at the time. In just a few years, she would be married to Earl Derham. Read on for the adventures of a single girl in the early 20th century!

Winnie, Glen, Earl, and I had planned to have a picnic in Chilt's woods but it rained so they all came up here to spend the day. Chester and Arthur P. came up in a.m. Aunt Mary, Mable, Uncle Theo, Arthur, Belle, and Grace up in p.m. Ate ice cream, cherries, and us young folks went down to R.R. track to pick strawberries. Came home thru the "devil's lane" and got some pretty grass. Us 4 drove downtown in Earl's new buggy to the Baccaulearaut sermon at Methodist church. Got home at 9:45.
