Grace Rose lived from 1887 to 1981. She was born in Michigan and lived there most of her life. This is a transcription of her diary written in 1908, the year she turned 21. She lived in Corunna, Michigan at the time. In just a few years, she would be married to Earl Derham. Read on for the adventures of a single girl in the early 20th century!

Belle, Arthur, Donald, and Grace up all day and Aunt Mary up too. Rained all night so Grace and Belle stayed all night. Arthur and Donald went home with Earl. We could not be alone only about an hour but we will make up for lost time some day.

Milbourn up in a.m. for a little while. Belle and Arthur and kids up all day. I took them back in evening. Earl came up.

Transcriber's notes:
"Milbourn" could be Melbourne Rose, Grace's cousin.

Winnie, Glen, Earl, and I had planned to have a picnic in Chilt's woods but it rained so they all came up here to spend the day. Chester and Arthur P. came up in a.m. Aunt Mary, Mable, Uncle Theo, Arthur, Belle, and Grace up in p.m. Ate ice cream, cherries, and us young folks went down to R.R. track to pick strawberries. Came home thru the "devil's lane" and got some pretty grass. Us 4 drove downtown in Earl's new buggy to the Baccaulearaut sermon at Methodist church. Got home at 9:45.

Rather stormy all day. Uncle Herb drove up in p.m. Belle and Arthur up in evening. Talked with W.F.C. and had a nice visit. Papa did not like the idea of my talking to strangers but I cannot help it.

Cool and wind blew rather hard during the day. Blizzard at night. Got Will C's letter and answered it. Mama took me downtown in p.m. and I went to Owosso. Saw Elaine T. Club girls met at Belle's in evening although it was awful stormy. Mama came down. Arthur took the girls home with his horse and cutler. Mama and I drove home at 12 o'clock and the road was drifted quite bad.
