Grace Rose lived from 1887 to 1981. She was born in Michigan and lived there most of her life. This is a transcription of her diary written in 1908, the year she turned 21. She lived in Corunna, Michigan at the time. In just a few years, she would be married to Earl Derham. Read on for the adventures of a single girl in the early 20th century!

Washed all a.m. In p.m. I walked downtown and Belle, Mertie, and I went to the ballgame between Byron Masons and Corunna M. and we got beat quite bad. Stayed at Belle's all night. In evening went to the theatorium and Earl came up there afterwards. Saw "Willie" Soper and Aunt Minnie in the drugstore. Played pedro and fought for the sporting sheet.
