Grace Rose lived from 1887 to 1981. She was born in Michigan and lived there most of her life. This is a transcription of her diary written in 1908, the year she turned 21. Friday, April 17, 1908
Went downtown about 8 o'clock a.m. Saw Glen M. Mr Woodhams caled in p.m. Also Leah Eveleth. Emma and Libbie came up and Chilt told our fortunes with tea-grounds. Great! I walked a piece with them when they went home.
Thursday, April 16, 1908
Rec'd W.M.'s letter. Grandma and I drove downtown in p.m. I went to see the dressmaker, up to Grandma's house and to Mrs Mills. Got home at 5 o'clock. A date with Earl Derham. Ha! Ha! At 6:30 I walked over to Dolly Long's and in evening Cranes and us girls went to Geo. Ackerson's to a warm sugar social. An awful crowd and all had a good time. I helped Ernest Larner work a button-hole and he took me to supper. I expected Bessie was coming home with me to stay all night but Ward Martin brought me home with his horse and buggy. "The next house is Roses." Ha! Ha! Got home at 1:30. Dandy night.

Lantz's mill and barn burned the night. Wanted to go down to Mable Wallace's in evening but couldn't because Mama wasn't as well. Papa went down to see the Dr after supper.
Tuesday, April 14, 1908
Just a fine day. The C. Union School house burned at 5:30 in a.m. Went downtown in a.m. to trade. Aunt Louise and children up in p.m. Went down to the road and had quite a talk with Dolly Long. Talked with Will and got rather provoked at him. "Funny, isn't it?"

Mrs Gilbert over in a.m. Papa over to Uncle Theo in p.m. Mrs G came over again in evening. I had a dandy visit with Will over the phone. Ans'd W.H. and W.F.C.'s letters.

Worked hard all day. Papa went downtown in p.m. and the Dr came later. Dandy day.

Had the Dr again and Aunt Mary over. I went to Eveleth for a few minutes. Sat up most all night. Will called up but I could not talk because Mama needed me. Rec'd W.F.C.'s letter.

Bessie Crane and I drove to Vernon in p.m. and had dandy time. Saw Will C. and he took us up to his room. Stayed to Cranes' all night. Intended to go to party but rained.

Dandy day and warm. Ans'd W.F.C.'s letter. Walked downtown in p.m. to get cloth for jacket. Went to Owosso and Mrs Twitchell's.

Rained all day. Bessie and Leah Crane up all day and had a nice visit. Sum came up and got some liquor for his mother about 9:30. Ans'd M.A., W.M., and W.H.'s letters.

Dandy day. Mama and I drove down to see the Dr in p.m. and stopped to see Mrs Hawkins who is real sick.

Rained nearly all day. Papa took me downtown and I went to the last dancing lesson. Had a dandy time dancing with Gurnee Millard. Rec'd W.M. and Myrtle's letters.
