Grace Rose lived from 1887 to 1981. She was born in Michigan and lived there most of her life. This is a transcription of her diary written in 1908, the year she turned 21. Went downtown in a.m., to Owosso and Maude T's in p.m., and to the dress maker. Thought I had lost my shopping bag but found it back of the hall tree at Belle's. We all went to the musical in Baptist church in evening to hear Gertie Goodell sing.

Stayed in the P.O. all a.m. Belle and I wanted to go to Owosso in p.m. but couldn't because the cars did not run. Went to dancing school in evening and had the swellest time ever but was awful tired. Stayed to Belle's all night and they went to the Maccabee party. Got home at 12 o'clock.

Papa took me downtown in afternoon. Went to the dress maker and up to W.C.'s all night. Club met there. Had a dandy time. Question box. "Who is Grace R's fellow?" "Will Cook." Ha! Ha!

Papa went over to Uncle Theo in a.m. to get Mama so he stayed all day. Chilt came over in afternoon. Ans'd M.A., Ike's, and W.F.C.'s letters.

Felt rather bum all day. Went over to Chilt's in p.m. after some books to read. Herbert came over after Mama so she went over there and stayed all night. Talked with W.F.C. in evening.

Belle and I went downtown in morning and I bought some cards. Bertha invited me to the party at Laffrey's but I came home in the afternoon. Got a ride with Dub as far as his place. Lucky.

Mama and I went to the doctor's office and to Owosso in p.m. Got cloth for my skirt and took it to Mrs King for her to make. Stayed at Belle's all night and went to first dancing lesson in the Opera House. Had a dandy time and got home at 12 o'clock.

Eight telephone men were here for dinner. Mama and I went downtown in p.m. and I engaged the dressmaker to make my skirt. Our telephone was out of order.

Went downtown with Belle in a.m. and over to Frank Peacock's. Donald brough me home after school but I went back with him and stayed all night. Belle, Grace, and I went to Maccabee doings in evening and had dandy time. Played progressive pedro. Got W.C.'s letter.

Walked downtown in p.m. and went to the club at Romaine's. It was her birthday and we gave her a souvenir spoon. Had a dandy time. Awful wet and sloppy. Stayed at Belle's all night.

Mama and I went down to Hawkins a little while in the p.m. Mrs Gilbert was over while we were gone so she visited with Grandma.

Dandy day and warm. We washed. Fred Pretti's horses ran away and Mr Derr stopped them. Rec'd W.H. and Wallie's letters and ans'd W.M.'s letter.

Alone all day. Ans'd Ella's, Will C's, and M.A.'s letters and made candy. Talked with Dan and Will C in evening. Owosso cut Dan and I off before we were thru talking. Darn her!

Grandma, Mama, and I went downtown in p.m. Nearly froze coming back. Saw Emma and Grace Miller.

Same old blizzard. Mailman could not come on account of snow drifts. Heard that Sarah's adopted baby was dead.
