Grace Rose lived from 1887 to 1981. She was born in Michigan and lived there most of her life. This is a transcription of her diary written in 1908, the year she turned 21. Wednesday, May 6, 1908
Rained off and on all day and Bessie and I had planned to go to the ball-game between Greenville and C.H.S. but couldn't. Talked with Will in evening. Mama sat up and was dressed for the first. Chilt told my fortune in p.m. Took Grandma down to Belle's after supper.
Tuesday, May 5, 1908
Had a spat with Grandma but it did not amount to much. Papa and Chilt went spearing and had fine luck.
Sunday, May 3, 1908
Uncle Theo and Aunt Mary over also Earl came up in the afternoon. Got in bed at 11:30. Nice day.

Took a nap in p.m. Papa went downtown in the evening and I talked with Will for a little while.
Friday, May 1, 1908
I walked downtown in p.m. and ate supper at Ella S. Went to O.E.S. party in The Armory with Earl in evening. Intended to stay down all night but he had a rig so came home. Seal Morse and Rose Nixon missed the car so rode home with us. E: "Seal kissed you." Ha! Ha! Jealous. Got home at 3:30.

Washed my wool dress and ironed it. Mrs Gilbert and Chilt over in a.m. Sum called in the evening.

Alone all day and Mama sat up in p.m. Earl D. up in evening. The little black colt came.
Saturday, April 25, 1908
Grandma and I drove downtown in p.m. and I got my jacket. Bessie and I went to ball game. Holly - 3 and C.H.S. - 9. She rode home with us. Rained. Talked with Scottie and Fritz in the evening for about an hour. The wind blew awful hard.

Nothing doing all day. Wind blew awful hard and Mrs Solomon came after some eggs to set.
Thursday, April 23, 1908
Walked downtown in p.m. and expected to get my jacket but it wasn't done. Ella S. and I had sort of a spat. In evening went to party in Opera House with Earl D. Had a dandy time.
Wednesday, April 22, 1908
Awful warm all day. Earl D. called up and asked if I wanted to go to the party. Papa went downtown after supper and I helped Harry Hawkins drive his horses out of our yard.
Tuesday, April 21, 1908
Chilt over all morning. In p.m. I walked downtown and got my oxfords besides having my hat rebrimmed. Stopped at Belle's on way home. Talked with Ward at noon. Bill called up in the evening. Eli R. drove up for a while in even.

Washed a few things in a.m. Will C. up in p.m. and had a real nice visit with him.

Nice day but cold. Aunt Mary and Uncle Theo up in p.m. for a little while. Went to bed early.
Saturday, April 18, 1908
Rained all a.m. I drove downtown in p.m. after the washing and to try on my jacket. Met Bessie and we walked all over town and down to the park. Dandy in p.m. Talked with Will, Emma, Fred L., and Scott Wilcox in evening for 1 1/2 hours.
